our lives for the past week....

Whew....it has been a busy one around our house lately and it doesn't look like it will be slowing down anytime soon! Gotta love the hustle and bustle of the Holiday season!!

Thanksgiving was great and we managed to make all of our stops in one day...and I think we even spent an equal amount of time at each place {not sure how we pulled that one off}!

Actually, I wasn't sure if Thanksgiving was going to happen for everyone....Ryan had some sort of 24 hour thing that started Tuesday night but he of course pulled through so he could stuff himself full of turkey! On Tuesday, Keegan & I decided to bake some cookies to stay out of daddy's way and on Wednesday we cleaned & sanitized the house!!

On to Black Friday {dun, dun, dun}.....

if you read my previous post that I dedicated all to this one day, then you know that I had my eyes set on a brand spankin' new TV for our newly finished basement. Target had the perfect one {well at least the price of $298 was perfect} and I was determined to get it! After we got home on Thursday night I gathered my ads and made my lists of everything that I needed to get from a few select stores. I laid down for a little bit, dosed off for about 15 minutes and then was up and at 'em!

I ended up getting to Target at 1...A.M. Yep, I was one of those crazies sitting outside in 20 something degree weather for 3 hours waiting for the store to open.....but for the price of the TV it was worth it. At least I thought it was worth it until I got into the store saw the TV that I wanted {five of them actually} and then saw every single one of them get grabbed right before my eyes!! Two people grabbed the same one and a fight broke out {people even got shoved to the ground} and I'm pretty sure my exact words {which were said out loud} were "screw this"! I went on my way and found some other stuff that was on my list and headed out the door. I was back in my car at 4:17....my feet were still numb when I left.

I was so furious that I just went home {I didn't even go to any of the other stores I wanted to go to} and slept for most of the day. When I woke up Ryan & I decided to go shopping, I was determined to get a freakin' TV that day and the experience that night was much better!

We ended up finding a TV at Target {not for $298 though} so we bought it!
We went to some other stores, got the matching love seat for the basement, did some more Christmas shopping and ended up at Best Buy. Turns out they had the same exact TV we just bought for $100 less....so we did what anyone else would do, we bought it!! We also ended up with surround sound and a blu ray player also. OH....and the most important thing we got that night....my new COACH purse!! Merry Christmas to us! :)

Saturday and Sunday were devoted to cleaning, laundry, and decorating. We put the tree up and I put out the rest of the decorations {pictures to come once I actually finish it all}. Keegan has been quite the little helper too {if that's what you want to consider it}....he likes to move around my decorations to where he thinks it should go at the moment!

We also cleaned out our deep freeze that we have in the garage and we found the top layer of our wedding cake....guess we forgot about that on our anniversary! We let it thaw out and cut into it....I have to say that after a year and seven months it was still really good!!

And of course we had to wear our Christmas jammies to help get into the spirit!!

Confession Wednesday?!

Yes, I know confession days are on Friday not Wednesday but I will be busy shopping away in the wee hours of the morning and will hopefully be busy sleeping in the afternoon, so confessions are today!

I confess that for lunch yesterday I ate Taco Bell...no big deal {except it's totally not good for you in any way whatsoever} right? Well....I decided to order this big 'ole honkin' thing

That my friends would be the XXL Chalupa {with a bite taken out of it, but don't worry I took the bite, it didn't come like that!} Ever since they started advertising this thing I wanted to try it, I wanted to see just how big it really was {and secretly wanted to know if I could eat it all unlike the guy in the commercial} and let me just say that it is big but not as big as I was expecting and it was delish!!

Here is what was left of it.....

I confess that I don't really like turkey, which is why Thanksgiving isn't my favorite holiday. The dark meat is much better than the white meat but still, I would rather eat chicken or ham. And who came up with the whole we have to eat turkey on Thanksgiving thing anyway?! And while we are on the topic of Thanksgiving...I hate it when people say "happy turkey day". It's not a day of turkey, it's a day of thanks for crying out loud!!

I confess that I have four junk drawers in my kitchen!! Most people have at least one, maybe two but not me....I have four! In my defense though two of them are really small! I know what is all in three of them but the fourth one....not a clue what is lying in there!

I confess that I forgot to change the sheets on Keegan's bed after he had an accident one night, so he slept on the dirty pee sheets one night! WHOOPS!! {I promise this was the only time that it has happened and it totally grosses me out so it won't happen again!}

I confess that as much as I love the holidays I also hate them! It is just a crazy time for us being pulled in so many different directions and having to run around from house to house trying to spend equal amounts of time with each family {which by the way never happens}. It wouldn't be so bad if say, we only had two places to go to but we don't so I suck it up and deal with it!

I confess that when I made cornbread muffins to go with chili the other night I purposely used the leftover Mickey Mouse cupcake liners to try to trick Keegan into eating them! However my plan failed and he wouldn't eat it.

I confess that as much as I hate the green couch that Ryan won through the coin flipping {I'm still convinced that the third flip was heads} I'm willing to let it go and not bug him about it anymore because I'm getting a COACH purse for Christmas!! {And I'm pretty sure I convinced him to go with me on Saturday to get it!!}

I confess that I HATE it when other people use my pens at work. I tend to chew on the caps and I also leave the caps on the top of the pen {you know so when I grab it out of the pen holder I can just start writing and I don't have to take the cap off}. It totally grosses me out when I pull a pen out and the cap is put on properly....dead give away that someone used!!

And because I won't be posting anymore blogs until next week....

Black Friday

Any of you crazy Black Friday shoppers?!

Me too!!!

I'm going to try my hardest to get ALL of my Christmas shopping done on Friday...with the exception of Keegan. I'm almost done with him buy Ryan & I are going together to get the rest of his gifts. Everyone is fair game though and hopefully I will accomplish my goal. There is one slight problem though.....

You see we draw names...and we don't just draw names once, but we do it three times. Once with my family, once with Ryan's immediate family {just the siblings & in laws} and another time with the Pflueger side of the family....and we don't draw names until Thanksgiving!!! Which means I have no idea who we are going to get and what will be on those people's lists, which means I only have Thursday night to plan it all out!! And...besides the draw names, I still have a good size list to get done but it should be pretty easy to get those gifts!

There are a couple of things that I already know of that I really want to get....

For starters, our basement is lacking a TV! What better time to buy a new one then Black Friday? Ya, I couldn't think of a better time either! Target has one at just the right price...

This baby is on sale for $298!!! Um....I'll take it please!! Target opens at 4 am {which I can't believe, the time gets earlier and earlier every year} and you better believe that I plan on being there super early to get one of these suckers!! {I told Ryan that I should just go straight there after we get done with all of the different houses we have to go and not even bother with going home} And if I don't get it....well....I'm not going to be a happy camper!! But, just as a precaution, I think I'm going to pick out a couple of other TV's that are for a good price as a back up plan. I WILL buy a TV on Friday!! {And it better be the one for $298!}

Another thing I want to find is a camera. I don't have one picked out yet, I will do that on Thursday when I can actually see the ads {and the pictures} in person instead of a list on the computer. The camera is actually for Ryan's mom {so if you know her and are reading this DO NOT tell her} so it doesn't have to be super fancy, just better than the ancient one she has now that takes 82937 minutes to take one freakin' picture! I'm sure I will be able to find one for a decent price and if they don't have any for the price I want to spend maybe someone will want to go in on it with us! {hint, hint Christine :)}

Another thing that I want to buy on Friday is another piece of furniture for the basement. I know what you are thinking...I just read about the whole couch fiasco yesterday. You see, we only bought the couch this past weekend and we still need something else to go with it.

the chair & ottoman...

or the love seat....

We wanted to wait until we got home and had the couch in the basement and then measure things to see how the other pieces would fit. We still haven't decided what we want but I told Ryan he has until Friday to decide because I would assume that the furniture store will be having a sale this weekend and if they are....I'm buying something!!

So...do you have anything that you absolutely want to get on Friday?!?! Know of any awesome deals that you feel the need to share?!

11.22.2010

It's Monday....again

Ok...so usually I hate Mondays but I'm willing to make today an exception and not hate it as much as usual. Why you ask? Because it's only a 3 day work week of course....why wouldn't I be excited about that?! Plus Thursday is Thanksgiving, which in my books is a valid excuse for stuffing my face with tons of yummy food! :)

We didn't do too much over the weekend, it was kinda low key around our house and I wouldn't of changed it at all. I needed a weekend that like really bad!! Saturday Ryan had to work so Keegan and I did a little shopping in the morning to get some more Christmas decor....you see we convinced Ryan to put the lights so we decided we needed to go get some more! I also got some more Christmas shopping done and was even able to cross someone off my list!! We stayed home that night and I was able to get some much needed laundry done and we rented a movie for the first time in a long time. If you haven't seen it yet, 'Grown Ups' is a pretty good movie!

On Sunday we put up the Christmas lights outside. However, you won't see them on anytime soon. Ryan {being the smart guy that he is} decided to hook every single strand together and ended up blowing a fuse in there somewhere! He actually found it, fixed it, then it happened again when we turned the lights back on when it got dark....he didn't bother trying to fix it that time. Let's just say there will be some strands coming undone and some more extension cords will be hooked up!

We also did some more shopping on Sunday....furniture shopping!!! Ryan said he wanted to go look for couches for the basement so I jumped to it and we went {who knows when he would want to do it again so I took full advantage of it}! I had everything all figured out for the basement....red couches {which would of looked amazing with the grey walls} with black, white & red accessories {and a little zebra print thrown in there}.....cute right?! Well we get to the first store and Ryan decides he doesn't want a red couch, it's just "not his color".

YOU HAVE GOTTA BE KIDDING ME!!

The red couches are a MAJOR roll in my whole inspiration for the basement....WTH am I going to do now?

He decided that he likes green....he wants a green couch. UGH....green doesn't go with my black, white & red {and zebra print} theme!! We left the first store since we couldn't agree on anything there and went to a couple of different places. We ended up at Ashley and they had the perfect couch and chair set, exactly what we had been looking for....and it came in red or green. Not only that, but they had both colors in stock...didn't help the situation.

We couldn't agree on a color so we did what any other typical couple would do....we flipped a coin! No, we literally flipped a coin in the middle of the furniture store to determine what color we would buy. The sales lady that was helping us laughed, she thought it was hilarious and had never seen anyone do that before. We designated Keegan as the official coin flipper, he determined heads was red and tails was green.

First flip....tails.

Second flip....heads {I still have a chance}.

Third flip....not sure Keegan thought it was a fun game so he picked it up before anyone could look at it.

Fourth flip....tails {crap...I really think the third flip was heads and I would have won!!}, green it is.

We now have green furniture in the basement....and let's just say I'm not happy about it but he won fair and square {unless that third flip was really heads then I won but we never knew it}.

Now I have to rethink my whole plan and have no idea what I'm going to do! And for your benefit, don't side with Ryan and if you do don't tell me!!

And there it is...

the red couch that will never be in my basement!

Let's Make Some Confessions

Oh Friday...how I have been looking forward to you all week! I really appreciate that you let me sleep in a little bit this morning {I needed it} and I also appreciate that Keegan woke up dry this morning {he wore big boy underwear to bed}...I know you have nothing to do with that but it was nice to wake up to!!

Now that I've professed some things that don't really matter let's get to the confessions shall we?!

I confess that since Keegan wears underwear now he usually walks around the house looking like this

Yep...he can usually be found in just a shirt and underwear, no pants....for some reason he prefers it this way and as long as it means he doesn't have any accidents then so be it!

I also confess that I for some reason find it cute and love taking pictures {maybe for blackmail some day}....however he made me take this one so I could see what was on his butt!!

I confess that even though I am beyond happy that Keegan is no longer in diapers, I no longer have a legit excuse to go to Target all the time....I'm going to have to come up with another one real soon!

I confess that I let my house look like a complete disaster for 3 days after Keegan's party {with the exception of cleaning up the kitchen because a dirty kitchen is a big no-no} and as a matter of fact, his banners and balloons {which are now deflated} are still hanging up in the kitchen.

I confess that I can't resist the urge to get Keegan more clothes from TCP {The Children's Place} whenever I get awesome coupons in my inbox....for a second I seriously contemplated not getting emails from them anymore because it is just way too much temptation for me....that second came and went, I'm still receiving emails!! BUT....in my offense I only use the really good ones so I get some awesome deals like this for example...

Keegan now has a new pair of flip-flops for next summer and I only paid 75 cents for them!! I mean HELLO....of course I'm going to buy a ton of stuff with deals like this! And luckily Ryan hasn't realized how much I've actually bought so far....it probably helps that I only buy a little at a time but if he knew he would have a fit!

I confess that I already know what both Keegan & I will be wearing for Thanksgiving...well I have it narrowed down for Keegan and will probably decide for sure that day...Ryan on the other hand can decide for himself but I already know that he will ask me to iron a shirt for him 5 minutes before we have to leave the house. And you better believe that my outfit will include these cute things!

Ok....now it's your turn to confess a little something!!

11.18.2010

UGH!!

Do you ever have one of those moments when you just want to SCREAM because it seems like everything just isn't going quite the way you would like it to?!

Well...I know exactly how you feel.

It's those times when it seems like everyone around you is just happy as can be and everything is falling perfectly into place for them and you are just standing by watching it all happen in front of your eyes. And what makes it worst is when it is happening EVERYWHERE you look and you pretend to be happy go lucky like nothing is wrong and it doesn't bother you that all of these people are so freakin' happy and are enjoying the things that you would like to be enjoying also but you aren't so you go back into your own little world where nothing is going right.

UGH!!!!!!!!
{that would be in my screaming voice}

Times like this make me crabby bitchy...and not just the normal bitchiness {pretty sure I just made that word up}that happens every once in a while, it's more like I'm in a full out bitch mode 24/7 and who knows when it will go away. I feel bad for my family during this time....and thank my husband for putting up with it even though I know it drives him absolutely insane because I snap at him for every single thing.

And I know today was suppose to be "Thankful Thursday" BUT things don't always work out the way you want them to!

Keegan's Birthday Party

Last Sunday was Keegan's big Mickey Mouse birthday party! Everything turned out great and all of our family and friends were there to help us celebrate. Keegan no longer needs any presents for Christmas though since he got a TON of stuff and now my house is overflowing with toys!

Here is a peak at what went on:

First....the invitations!!

I knew I wanted something a little different than just a regular invite and when I came across the invitations on Etsy I knew it was perfect!! I bought the image and sent the seller all of the information. Within a day she had it back to me and I was able to print them off where ever I wanted...I decided to make them into postcards! However there was a bit of a problem with them...you see I put that the party was at "The Pflueger Clubhouse", as in "The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse"....cute huh? Well apparently it was pretty confusing to some people because the Pfleuger's really do have a clubhouse so I had to let everyone know that it was really at our house {and 2 people actually went to the wrong place but hey, I warned them so it wasn't my fault!} I guess that's what I get for trying to be creative!! These are probably one of my favorite things that I got for the party!

The banner!!

Seriously...how cute is this thing?!?! Not going to lie...this is another favorite of mine! I had the banner custom made from Parker's Prints, also on Etsy. She has the cutest banners and cards, check out her store here and check out her blog too!! She is super nice and once we decided on the final look of the banner I had it in no time! It came all wrapped up in matching tissue paper {which by the way I loved that extra little touch} and she even put in some extra Mickey Mouse heads in there which Keegan still plays with!

Stephanie with Parker's Prints also made these matching gift bag tags {which were super cheap and super cute}!! I put the kids' names on the back of it so I would remember who it went to. And....I forgot to hand some of them out {which I feel really bad about} so there are a couple of little kids that will be getting theirs sometime soon!

Keegan's first gift of the day.....his own Mickey Mouse ears that Grandma Connie got him from Disneyland!

Cake table....

Ignore the crap on the chairs and the extra balloons in the corner...I forgot to move it all before I took the picture!

singing happy birthday.....

blowing out the candles....

gift time....

I also got his "3" shirt off of Etsy too....that however I wasn't too pleased with. The shirt itself was fine but I didn't get it for like 5 weeks...luckily I ordered it soon enough to have 5 weeks to waste and luckily it came in right before he got his pictures taken!!

Happy Birthday!!

Three years ago today my life changed in so many ways and every single one of those changes has been for the better!!

After 16 long, painful hours of a nothing but miserable labor {epidural kept wearing off & there was some vomitting throughout the day} that ended with an "emergency" c-section, a 9lb 9 oz 22 inches baby boy came into our lives and stole our hearts!

November 14, 2007

Now we have an independant, funny, laid back, fiesty, talk your ear off 3 year old little boy...nope not a baby or a toddler, he is a little boy!!

Dear Keegan,

I can't believe that it has already been 3 years since you came into our lives, seriously where has the time gone? It feels like just yesterday that you were still in my belly and I was wondering if the baby that had it's knees sticking out of the sides of my stomach was a boy or a girl {we waited to find out until you were born}.

If I was able to make your birthday wish for you, it would be for you to stop growing up so fast!! These years are flying by way too fast for my liking and I would like nothing more than to make you stay little forever! You have become such an amazing little boy! We are so very proud of you already and I know that we will only become more proud of you as you continue to grow into a young man. {and just so you know, just thinking about you becoming a young man terrifies me to death!}

I hope you have a blast at your Mickey Mouse birthday party and enjoy all of the attention that will be thrown your way today!
Happy Birthday Keegan!!

Love Mommy & Daddy

Thankful Thursday

I want to start my "thankful Thursday" with something that I know that not only am I thankful for, but I'm sure every person who is reading this is as well....our freedom. I am thankful to every single person who has fought in wars, missed out on watching their kids grow, been thousands of miles away from their families, been injured, became a prisoner of war, sacrificed their life and freedom all so I can sit here today and enjoy all the things that they have missed out on. Without these people we wouldn't have the freedom that we get to enjoy {and sometimes take for granted}. So a big THANK YOU to all of the vets, past and present, for allowing me to live such a great life!

Ok....now on to the other random things that I'm thankful for! :)

I'm thankful for my mom! I'm pretty sure that I couldn't even come close to all of the reasons why I'm thankful for her but I will give you some. She is the one person who always has the right answer to any question that I have. She was a single parent for the majority of my life and I like to think she did an amazing job at it! She is an awesome cook! She has always done whatever she needed to whenever I needed {or still need} her help. She is a wonderful grandma.

I'm thankful that Keegan is now officially potty trained!! WOOHOO!!! I was literally starting to think that this day would never come but it has!! Everyone that told me that he would do it when he was ready and that it probably wouldn't happen until around his 3rd birthday was right....that is exactly how it happened. He started wearing big boy underwear on Sunday and has kept them on since {not the same pair though}. He has only worn a diaper at bedtime & nap time {don't trust to go that long yet} and he has even stayed dry a couple of those times! And since he started wearing underwear he has only had a total of 3 accidents....amazing!! I'm one happy mom right now!

And in Keegan's words "I don't wear diapers, only babies wear diapers and I'm a big boy"!

I'm thankful for food! Yep, just food in general....I love to eat, it's one of my favorite past times!

I'm thankful for a good pair of boots {gotta have them to go with the perfect pair of jeans right?}. Most importantly, I'm thankful for finding these new boots on sale for 1/2 off the original price!

They are definitely my new favorites and I can't wait to wear them!! Do you think skinny jeans & boots are appropriate for casual Friday at work?! {please say yes so I can wear them tomorrow!}

A Year Later.....

It has been a year to the day that we have lived in our house already....craziness!! We signed our lives away for 30 years on October 30 and frantically moved in two weeks later, only 3 days before Keegan's 2nd birthday party. There have been LOTS of changes that we have made throughout the past year and there are still LOTS of things that I want to do!!

I thought I would share the befores and afters of what we have done, so make this my warning to you, there will be a lot of pictures in this post and it will be very long....you might even need to take a potty break while reading it!!

Welcome to our home!

This was the day we got the keys....look at all of those leaves!! The front pretty much still looks like this since we haven't gotten around to do any of the changes that we want to with the landscaping...maybe next spring?

Here is the kitchen before....
Don't you just love the wallpaper border and the old boxed lights on the ceiling?! Well, we didn't!! The wall paper came down, the walls got painted, new light fixtures went in, a new back splash went it, the bread box got ripped out, new knobs when on the cabinets and the most important change....a dishwasher got put in!! I told Ryan that I was NOT buying a house without a dishwasher {the one we lived in at the time didn't have one} and this house didn't have one but he assured me that there was room to put one in so you better believe that was on the top of the list of things to get done!! The walls are now a pale yellow but I'm still stuck on how I really want to "decorate" the kitchen so the walls next to the eat-in area are still empty. =/ I HATE empty walls!

Look...my dishwasher!! :)

Taking out the breadbox gave us so much more counter space!

Here is what I call the front room. BTW...everything that you see on the walls {including the curtains} in the before pictures were oh so generously left in the house....let's just say the first thing I did was take everything down!! I suggested we burn it all but instead I sold it all at a yard sale!

I hate to admit it but I haven't done much with this room yet. Right now it has our old couch, rocking chair, and it is now the home of Keegan's TV. I just don't know what I want to do with the space yet but once we get everything else done I'm sure it will come to me....I envision a semi-formal but still cozy sitting area!

Our hall bathroom, a.k.a. the pepto bismol puke covered room.

Everything you see is pink....the floor, the counter, the shower curtain the wallpaper, the god awful swag....which again everything was left for us to enjoy! The bathroom finally got a much needed make over this past summer and it is one of my favorite rooms in the house now!

Welcome to my beautiful groovy green bathroom {no I didn't make that name up, that's the name of the paint color}!! Everything got completely ripped out, except the bathtub and we reused the cabinet because there was nothing wrong with it and I don't mind the color of it. The inspiration for this room came from the shower curtain, which I absolutely LOVE....and it's reversible, there are stripes on the other side of it!!

Here is Keegan's room before:

And after....

We painted it a light blue {I really wanted light blue on the top half and dark blue on the bottom half but Ryan vetoed that idea, which is fine since he now has black furniture}, put a new ceiling fan in {well the one that was in his room in the old house}, and replaced the old, small baseboards with new ones {which we did in all the bedrooms and plan on doing with the rest of the house eventually}. Oh....don't look at his dresser took closely, it's kinda messy! There are now dark blue shelves on the wall next to the dresser with stuff on them.

Here is the room that sold us on the house...

The previous owners put this addition on to the house and it is safe to say that if this wasn't there we would not of bought the house. It is huge and has all the extra room we needed.

After we moved in...

The walls got new paint, a tan color and roasted pepper as the accent wall. We also replaced the ceiling fan and there are now blinds and curtains on the windows {except the two on the red wall because they are a weird shape and I can't find anything for those}. While I'm looking at this I which I had a better "after" picture...not too fond of this one but I guess it will work.

The dining room....

Not too much has changed here, actually I don't even have an "after" picture of it. It is painted the same tan as the living room {it is basically one big room so we had to continue with the same color}. The rug and table were left there from the previous owners {which btw I hate both of them} and we still have not gotten new ones to replace them. We replaced the ceiling fan and the window has the same blinds and curtain as the windows in the living room. I told Ryan at the beginning of the summer that I wanted a new table by Keegan's birthday but that hasn't happened and with only a couple of days left I don't think it is going to happen. Some day though...I will get a new dining room table!

Next is the basement....where the majority of the changes/renovations have taken place. Here is the stair case before and half way through the painting process...

The basement before had paneling throughout the entire thing that the previous owners decided to paint....not such a good idea. The paneling came down and drywall went up. The old ceiling tiles came down and a hard ceiling went up in part of it and a new drop ceiling went in above the bar area. The old carpet has been ripped up and the brand spankin' new soft carpet was installed this past weekend!! The walls are a light gray with a dark gray accent wall behind the bar area. All of the old florescent lights came down and brand spanking new can lights went in. Here is a look at part of it before and a sneak peak of the after {I'm sure there will be a complete post on the basement in the hopefully near future!}....

Pictures that aren't on here are the spare bedroom and the master bedroom & bathroom. The spare bedroom is a toy room for now and nothing has been done to that room except for new baseboards and a million toys thrown everywhere...whenever baby #2 comes along then we will make the necessary changes to that room. The only thing we did to our bedroom was paint and new baseboards. Since our bedroom is pretty small I stuck with a creamish color {it's called white chocolate} and painted the bathroom that color as well....both of those rooms are still a work in progress!

We also changed every single outlet and light switch in the entire house, not just the covers but the actual outlets and switches. The old ones were off white and gold....I hate off white and gold....they are now all white!

Some changes that will eventually happen....new kitchen floor, new floor in the master bathroom, new doors throughout the house {they are the old wooden ones now and I would much rather have new white ones}, new baseboards throughout the house, and I'm hoping new carpet throughout the house some day {I'm well aware this may never happen but I hate our carpet}.
